FAA Drone Certification Program

Part 1: Operational and Regulatory Overview

This FAA Drone Certification course offers an in-depth exploration of the knowledge and skills required for the safe and legal operation of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). Key components of the training include:

  • Overview of UAS regulations and certification processes

  • Airport operations and protocols for drone integration

  • Airspace classification and navigation within controlled environments

  • Operating requirements and limitations as defined by FAA regulations

  • Flight restrictions, including Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs)

  • Radio communication procedures for safe and coordinated operations

  • Routine maintenance and pre-flight inspections to ensure airworthiness

  • Understanding the mechanics and systems of unmanned aircraft

This course prepares participants to meet the FAA's Part 107 certification standards, ensuring compliance and operational excellence in both commercial and governmental applications.

Part 2: Software and Airborne Electronic Hardware Certification

The FAA Aircraft Certification Service (AIR) is responsible for the evaluation and approval of software and airborne electronic hardware integral to the safety and functionality of airborne systems. This includes, but is not limited to, autopilots, flight control systems, and engine control units. Additionally, the FAA oversees software and hardware used in the production, testing, and manufacturing processes for equipment installed on certified airborne products, including aircraft, engines, and propellers.
AIR develops and implements policy, guidance, and training frameworks to ensure these systems meet rigorous safety and reliability standards. Compliance with these protocols is critical to maintaining the integrity and airworthiness of the nation’s aviation fleet.
